2019 Fort Hunt Little League Award Nomination Process & Criteria

On February 1, 2020, Fort Hunt Little League is hosting its first annual Fundraising and Awards Gala at Mount Vernon County Club. Beginning November 1, we invite the FHLL community to nominate candidates for the following award categories: 

 

Volunteer of the Year

Manager/Coach of the Year

Senior Umpire of the Year

Junior Umpire of the Year

Good Sport of the Year

 

Online nominations will be accepted during the window of November 1-29, 2019. A nominating committee representing FHLL parents and players will review all nominations and present its recommendations for the winner of each category to the FHLL Board of Directors. The FHLL Board will then vote on each winner during a scheduled winter board meeting. For questions, please contact .

Volunteer of the Year

Fort Hunt Little League is powered by its volunteers. The FHLL Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding individual whose tireless dedication and service have made a significant difference to FHLL and the community. This person’s actions throughout the year have met and exceeded the mission of FHLL which is to provide youth baseball in a safe and positive environment. The FHLL Volunteer of the Year promotes the best values of FHLL.

Eligibility: The candidate is in good standing with FHLL during the 2019 calendar year. The candidate demonstrates active involvement as a parent, coach, manager, board member or member of the training team and has contributed a significant amount of volunteer time and service to FHLL.

Manager/Coach of the Year

The FHLL Manager/Coach of the Year Award honors an individual who makes the game fun and educational for the players. This person treats each player as an individual and helps the players to develop into well-rounded baseball players. This individual has the respect of his/her players and fellow coaches/managers in the league by being positive and supportive of players in their development. This person exhibits a winning attitude by developing baseball players to have respect for themselves, their coaches, teammates, the game of baseball and the entire FHLL community. This person is a role model for fair play and sportsmanship.

Eligibility: The manager/coach is in good standing with FHLL during the 2019 calendar year, and the candidate coached during either or both the spring and fall season.

Senior Umpire of the Year

The FHLL Senior Umpire of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has contributed his/her time working to strengthen FHLL through umpiring. This individual presents a positive image to the players and families while officiating and strives to be a role model for the players. This person exemplifies the FHLL values of integrity, honest, accountability, fairness and respectfulness. Additionally, this individual works to educate the players and coaches through the officiating process and promote the values of FHLL.

Eligibility: The senior umpire is in good standing with FHLL during the 2019 calendar year, and the candidate umpired games during either or both the spring and fall season.

Junior Umpire of the Year

The FHLL Junior Umpire of the Year honors an individual who exemplifies the FHLL values of integrity, honesty, accountability, fairness, respectfulness, and reliability through his/her work as an umpire. The individual has a command of the rules of the game and performs consistently well as either a base or plate umpire. This person serves as a role model for the players, works well with other Junior and Senior Umpires, and strives for improvement by seeking feedback from other umpires, making adjustments, and increasing his/her mastery of the Little League rule book.

**Please Note: This award will be announced at the February 1st Gala but presented to the junior umpire at the 2020 Spring Opening Day Ceremony.

Eligibility: The junior umpire must have umpired for a minimum of four games during each of the spring and fall seasons in FHLL.

Good Sport of the Year

The FHLL Good Sport of the Year honors a player who exhibits the values of FHLL and Little League International which are character, courage and loyalty. This player recognizes what it truly means to be part of a team and conducts himself or herself accordingly to the principles of fair play and good sportsmanship. This person distinguishes himself or herself through exemplary behavior and respectfulness of managers/coaches, teammates and umpires.

**Please Note: This award will be announced at the February 1st Gala but presented to the player at the 2020 Spring Opening Day Ceremony.

Eligibility: The candidate is in good standing with FHLL during the 2019 calendar year, and the candidate played during either or both the spring and fall season. A FHLL player at any level of play is eligible for this award.
